The 9th SPA “Covestro Cup” Student Vocational Skills Competition Grandly Kicked off

On the afternoon of December 13, 2016, students from 6 secondary vocational schools including Shanghai Administrative Management School, Shanghai Materials Engineering School and Shanghai Food Science and Technology School gathered at SPA to participate in the 9th “Covestro Cup” Student Skills Competition. At two o'clock in the afternoon, the 9th Covestro Cup Student Vocational Skills Competition grandly kicked off. The guests attending the ceremony included Dr. Roland Stegmueller, vice president& gerenal manager Bayer Intergrated Site Shanghai, David Wang,  HR officer-campus recruitment Human Resources Greater China, Wang Yuping, recruiting manager, Huang Jun, public relation commissioner of Bayer Intergrated Site Shanghai, Huang Rongting, recruitment commissioner Greater China. Lin Guoxin, Party secretary of SPA, Gao Ju and Huang Hanjun, vice principals of SPA also attended the ceremony.

Fifteen Years’ Comprehensive Integration: an Excellent Example of School-Enterprise Cooperation

SPA has been cooperating with Covestro for fifteen years. The two sides have realized the deep integration of school-enterprise by jointly working out teaching plans, establishing title classes, constructing training bases, launching Covestro Day, and setting up vocational education reward funds. The “Covestro Cup” Student Vocational Skill Competition is an important cooperation project between SPA and Covestro.

Lin Guoxin delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and expressed his warmest welcome and most sincere gratitude to all the guests present. He said that the corporate culture of “using innovative technology to make life full of power” has a good influence on the campus of SPA. It has laid a foundation for cultivating students' excellent professional skills and good professionalism. In the past 15 years, nearly 300 graduates of SPA have joined the company, and their outstanding performance has been highly praised by the management of the company.

Dr. Roland Stegmueller announced the opening of the 9th Covestro Cup Student Skills Competition. He said that Covestro's cooperation with SPA has set a good example in the field of vocational education. After graduating from SPA, the students joined Covestro, where they worked as  laboratory analysts, front-line operator, office assistant or even middle-level deputy manager. Through the platform of school-enterprise cooperation, students have the opportunity to show their professional skills. At the same time, Dr. Roland Stegmueller expects that SPA and Covestro can promote further cooperation in on-the-job training.

Nine Years’ Vocational Skills Competitions Promote the Spirit of Craftsmen

In 2008, SPA collaborated with Covestro to hold the first vocational skills competition. Today, the 9th “Covestro Cup” Vocational Skill Competition has started, with a total of 7 secondary vocational schools participating in it. There are altogether 31 items in the competition, involving general categories, chemical engineering, mechanical processing, electrical and electronic, information technology, tourism, economics & trade. The number of students participating in the competition adds up to 1,522. It has created a good competition atmosphere of “everyone pays attention to skills and every class has players ”.

At the opening ceremony, Gao Ju announced the names of winners in the 8th “Covestro Cup” Vocational Skill Competition and the 2016 National Vocational School Skills Competition. The leaders of both schools and enterprises jointly awarded the honorary certificates to the winners. A total of 592 students won prizes in the 8th Covestro Cup Vocational Skills Competition, of which 111 students won the first prize, 188 students won the second prize, and 293 students won the third prize. Xu Wenfeng, from 131 BASF Class, who won the group second prize of Industrial Analysis and Inspection Project in 2016 National Vocational School Skills Competition, gave a speech on behalf of the winners and shared his growth history with the teachers and students. In the 8th “Covestro Cup” Vocational Skill Competition, Xu Wenfeng participated in four projects and won the first prize of the Analytical Chemistry Experiment Operation Project, making him have the opportunity to participate in the National Vocational School Skills Competition. He believes that participating in the skill competition is not only a great honor for him, but also an important milestone in his growth, leaving a wonderful stroke in his life.

Zhu Hong, mother of Liu Chengchao from 140 Chemical Engineering, also attended the opening ceremony on behalf of the parents of the students. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the school and the company. Both of her children are studying at SPA. She said that by participating in the vocational skills competition, her children have learned a lot of skills and become more confident.

After the opening ceremony, accompanied by Lin Guoxin, Dr. Roland Stegmueller went to the competitions site to watch the competition.

The 9 consecutive “Covestro Cup” student vocational skill competitions not only provide students with a stage to show their skills and talent, but also helps the school to select a group of outstanding students who have won awards in the skill competition. At the same time, it helps to cultivate  batches of high-quality employees with professional skills and craftsman spirit for the enterprises.

The 9th Covestro Cup Student Vocational Skill Competition has begun, and the 7th Shanghai Star Project Vocational Skills Competition is about to start. We sincerely hope that our students can gain better achievement.
