Jinshan District Vocational Education Group's Teaching Observation Seminar Was Held in SPA

Although the 7th Teaching Methodology Reform Competition has come to an end, the pace of teachers' exploration of teaching methods has never stopped. On December 21,2016, the teaching observation seminar organized by Jinshan District Vocational Education Group was held in SPA. Li Yu, director of the Vocational Education Evaluation Institute of the Shanghai Municipal Education Evaluation Institute, Tan Yimin, from the Shanghai Education Commission Teaching and Reserch Office, and Xue Mei, director of the Vocational Education Department of the Jinshan District Education Bureau attended the event. Jin Siyun, principal of Shanghai Food Science and Technology School, and Huang Hanjun, vice principal of SPA presided over the seminar. 60 teachers from SPA, Shanghai Food Science and Technology School, Jinshan District Community College, Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical College, Health School of Jinshan participated in the seminar.

Xue Mei hopes that the teachers and schools can learn from each other through this activity. She believes that this seminar is of great help for teachers to improve their teaching methods, and cultivate more students who meet the needs of enterprises.


The 6th and 7th Teaching Methodology Reform Competition were both based on the theme of “Seeking Suitable Teaching Methodology Which Best Suits Students”. Ye Guoqing, a teacher of the Chemical Engineering Department of SPA, shared his teaching ideas on the topic.

Ye Guoqing participated in the 6th and 7th Teaching Methodology Reform Competition, won the first prize in the sixth and won the third prize in the seventh. In 2016, he won the first prize in Jinshan District Vocational Education Group Teaching Skills Competition. 

Ye Guoqing believes that being student-oriented is the base of high-quality education, so it must be embodied in the teaching process. Ye Guoqing believes that in order to arouse students’ enthusiasm in class, teachers can adopt the integrated teaching model, task-based teaching model, flipped classrooms, and motivating autonomous learning model, etc. He then said that teachers should prepare lessons carefully, analyze students’ academic abilities, try to be close to the students' lives and arouse students' interest. At the same time, teachers should make friends with students and create a harmonious classroom atmosphere. All the teachers present agreed with what he said.

Zhuge Yunguo, a PE. teacher from SPA, won the third prize in the 2016 Jinshan Vocational Education Group Teaching Skills Competition. He demonstrated a P.E. lesson .

At the beginning of the lesson, led by the teacher, all the students played a warm-up game called Squirrel and Big Tree. After that, the whole class was divided into two groups to have the outward bound. Each group of students will quickly run to the center of the playground after skipping for one minute to find the cards numbered one to twenty as many as possible within the given time. In the first round of the match, the two teams found two cards and three cards respectively. Zhuge called the students together to explain the problems they had in the competition and pointed out that the key to completing the task was teamwork. In the second round and the third round, the pictures found by each group gradually increased, and even one group of students successfully found all the cards. At the end of the class, with the soothing music, Zhuge led the students to play the Figure Tai Chi. In the class, led by the teacher, the students stretched their muscles, participated in the game and the outward bound. It seemed that they really enjoyed it.

In the presentation of teaching, Zhuge said that through such outward bound, students will develop their teamwork ability while building up their physical fitness.

After the two classes, the teachers present had a heated discussion. Most of them thought that the two teachers had rich teaching experience and they learned a lot from the lessons. At the same time, some teachers pointed out the shortcomings of the lessons, some put forward their queries in their practical teaching.

Li Yu and Tan Yimin also commented on the teaching observation and discussion. Li Yu pointed out that teachers should integrate professionalism with subject knowledge and skills in teaching. Teachers should pay special attention to their own good professionalism and give students the most standardized display. He reminded teachers that while using a variety of teaching methods, do not neglect the humanization of education. At the same time, teachers should focus on guiding the positive values of students. Tan Yimin said that teachers should regard students as different individuals, give students time and freedom to think, listen carefully to students in class. At the same time, teachers must change their roles and become students' companions in study. The comments of the two experts benefit the teachers a lot.

The teaching observation activities have achieved great success and provided new ideas for the reform of vocational education in Jinshan District.
