On June 3, 2018, the 5th Shanghai Students Dragon Cultural Competition, which was hosted by Shanghai Education Committee, Shanghai Sports Bureau, Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League and Liberation Daily, concluded in Fengxian Hai Wan Forest Park. The Dragon Boat Team of SPA won the first prize in the dragon boat race of Shanghai Students Dragon Cultural Competition for the 4th consecutive year.
In order to prepare for the dragon boat race, SPA attached great importance. Tang Chenwei, secretary of the Youth League Committee of SPA, took charge of the relevant issues of taking part in the competition. Gu Fei and Wang Yixin, two P.E. teachers, were in charge of the training of the students. From April to June, 2018, they took the students to the seaside to have dragon boat race training every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday afternoon. With the joint effort, the Dragon Boat Team of SPA won the first prize in the senior high school group.
It was not easy for the students of SPA, who are mostly new trainees this year, to win the first prize. Only through hard and strict training were they able to win the honor. During the 2-month training, some of the trainees met with various obstacles and challenges, such as seawater allergy, fevers, bronchitis, etc. However, they overcame all the difficulties and won great honor for SPA with their team solidarity, stable performance and flawless display.
Although the Dragon Boat Team of SPA didn't get satisfying performance at the preliminary competition, they were lucky enough to enter the semi-final. The teachers made full use of noon break to encourage trainees to lay down their psychological burden and build up confidence. In the end, they entered the final with the highest scores among the 12 teams.
Finally, the Dragon Boat Team of SPA won the first prize in the dragon boat race of Shanghai Students Dragon Cultural Competition for the 4th consecutive year. The support of school and parents, the scientific training of the coaches, and hard work of every trainee contributed to the success of the competition. Success belongs to the most prepared. We hope for better performance next year.
