During the second semester of 2017-2018 school year, SPA held Seagull Teaching Competition. 29 contestants displayed their performances and abilities on the teaching platform. In order to sum up their experience, promote teaching reform and improve teaching level, SPA held Seagull Teaching Competition Summary Symposium in the lecture hall on the morning of June 23, 2018. All the leaders and staff attended the meeting, which was hosted by Huang Hanjun, vice principal of SPA.
First of all, Zhu Wenjun, director of Teaching and Research Section of SPA, made a summary of the 4-month competition. The contestants accounts for 11% of all the full-time and part-time teachers. The competition features 14 majors or subjects, 21 courses, which attract not only teachers with junior titles but the ones with senior titles to participate in it. There are altogether 29 lectures, 3 presentation & evaluation activities. Zhu Wenjun stressed that the success of the competition resulted from contestants' hard work and dedication and judges' selfless participation and devotion. He analyzed and affirmed the positive role the competition has played in accelerating curriculum reform & teaching innovation, improving teachers' ability of using modern education theory & methods, promoting the combination of information technology and subject teaching, and leading young teachers to standardize teaching activities, to study methodology intensively, and to boost their professional development.
Lin Guoxin, Party secretary of SPA, announced the list of winners of the competition. There are 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 5 third prizes and 10 excellent prizes for classroom lecturing and presentation & evaluation & informational teaching design, respectively. Zhang Huaqing and Yang Liaoyuan won the first prizes of classroom lecturing competition; Zhang Huaqing and Wang Yelin won the first prizes of the presentation & evaluation & informational teaching design competition. Based on various factors including proportion, age, title, course distribution, preparation and prize, etc., three excellent organization honors went to Fundamental Subjects Department, Chemical Engineering Department and Economics & Trade Department, respectively. All the winners and team representatives received their prizes and took a group photo on the stage.
Zhang Huaqing made a speech as a winner representative. She recalled the experience of participating in the competition, which is both painstaking and fulfilling. The competition is not only a chance of tempering oneself but also a momentum of improvement for young teachers. Through the competition, she has understood the true meaning of practical and detailed preparations for lectures, mastered various and interesting teaching methods, and enjoyed effective and steady classroom performance, etc. Shao Baoqin, director of Fundamental Subjects Department, also made a speech as a department representative. He summed up the thorough experience of the competition, including selecting contestants, preparations, evaluation, news reports and so on, adding all these displayed the great efforts that all the contestants, teams, and teaching groups of the Fundamental Subjects Department had made for the competition.
Gao Ju, principal of SPA, expressed his congratulations and thanks to the winners and departments on behalf of SPA. He thought highly of the positive impact of the competition on promoting teaching reform, accelerating teachers' ability of using modern education and teaching theory and methods, adding that excellent classroom construction is especially important for promoting education reform and improving teaching quality. Each teacher should make great efforts to concentrate on his own job, impart knowledge and educate students, cultivate the spirit of the craftsman and forge craftsmanship. He also mentioned that the success of the competition and excellent performance of contestants owed to the concerted effort and hard work of all departments and teams. Apprentice and apprenticeship's collaboration and determination overcomes all obstacles. As the saying goes, "People with one mind and heart have the power to move a mountain." Gao Ju hoped that all the staff will learn from their experience, strengthen communication and exchanges, adopt others' strong points to offset one's own weakness, and strive to make greater breakthroughs in their future teaching and research.
After that, Zhang Huaqing, Chen Huihui, Zhou Xinwei, Zhang Qiang, Zhang Dan, Lu Yijiao, Feng Nan and Zhang Xiaohong delivered their splendid presentation and evaluation of open lectures to all the staff present, which are entitled "Adjustment Table of Statement of Bank Reconciliation", "Two Basic Counting Principles", "Food Pyramid II", "Ideal Gas Equation", "Participles(2)", "Excel Common Chart Making", "The 19th Century Chapter 3 The Light Of the Century —— Impressionism and Neo-impressionism" and "Handheld Single Finger and Single Banknote Counting". They elaborated the presentation and evaluation open lectures from the aspects of major, subject, student, methodology, procedure features and teaching reflections, etc.
Finally, Guo Yang from Shanghai Institute of Vocational & Technical Education(RIBB-S), made a wonderful comment on eight teachers' presentations. He sang highly of the vivid and positive spirituality and vitality which the teachers had displayed during their presentations, adding that the teachers had designed their lectures according to students' needs and actual situations and their presentations were normative and excellent. Guo Yang hoped that teachers will not only focus on their own subjects but also set their goals on higher visions of cultivating talent for the entire vocational education. Meanwhile, teachers should learn and understand the spirit of optimizing system, industry-education integration of the 19th CPC National Congress, deepen school-enterprise cooperation and achieve team construction development instead of individual development.
The Seagull Teaching Competition Symposium improves the teaching and research ability of SPA, deepens the exchanges among teachers, enables them to learn from each other, and boosts the overall improvement of the quality of the whole faculty. All the teachers will contribute to the development of the school to celebrate the upcoming 40th anniversary of the founding of SPA.
