Forty years of pioneering and persistence; forty years of turns and twists. 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up. Shanghai Petrochemical Academy also celebrates its 40th founding anniversary this year. On November 10, 2018, SPA grandly held the 40th Founding Anniversary Thematic Activity & Chemical Training Plant of Shanghai Chemical Industry Park & Sino-German Chemical Highly-skilled Talent Cultivation Base Unveiling Ceremony. The distinguished attendees include Zhao Weixing, Secretary of the CPC Jinshan District Committee of Shanghai, Ma Jing, Director of Shanghai Chemical Industry Park Administration Commission, Shi Wei, General Manager of Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company Limited, Zhang Difang, Deputy District Mayor of Jinshan, Chen Zhaolin, the former Deputy District Mayor of Jinshan & Deputy Director of Shanghai Chemical Industry Park Administration Commission, Zhao Ning, Director of Vocational Education Division of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Lao Xiaoyun, Director of Planning Office of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Ma Shuchao, Vice President of China Vocational Technical Education Society & President of Shanghai Vocational Education Association, Wilhelm Dittrich, Head of Recruitment, Training & Vocational Training Department of German Industry and Commerce Greater China, Chen Liwei, Deputy Director of Vocational Education of German Industry and Commerce Greater China, etc.
Zhao Weixing visited the History Museum of Shanghai Petrochemical Academy, Cross-enterprise Training Center and Chemical Engineering Training Building. He also heard Principal Gao Ju's report on school development course, school-running achievements, future prospects, etc. Zhao Weixing recognized SPA's achievements in the past forty years' development and he also put forward wishes that SPA will continue to make new breakthroughs in such areas as expanding joint school-running scale, accelerating international cooperation to elaborately create high-quality vocational education which can satisfy the society. He also expected SPA to become a high-end modern vocational technical school and substantially serve the development of Jinshan economy and society.

Shanghai Petrochemical Academy was established in 1978 by Shanghai Petroleum Chemical Engineering Corporation, which was later renamed to Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company Limited. Sinopec Shanghai and SPA have close connection of blood and veins of the same root. SPA has cultivated a great number of excellent personnel for the development and expansion of Sinopec Shanghai. At present, 23.86% of all the registered staff are fostered by SPA. They have made irreplaceable contributions to Sinopec Shanghai all-round sustainable development. So SPA and Sinopec Shanghai need continue to broaden cooperation scope and enrich cooperation connotation to cultivate more talents for the new-round structure adjustment and transformation development of Sinopec Shanghai, Shi Wei made these remarks in his speech.
Zhang Difang thought that SPA adheres to mechanism innovation and open school-running model, actively explores and creates a new pattern of running the school with the "four in one" collaboration and cooperation among "Government, Industry, Enterprise, School", powerfully promotes SPA's leap frog construction and development, makes great achievements in the areas including education and teaching reform, construction of majors, foreign exchanges and communications, etc., becomes "the cradle of craftsmanship", "highland of vocational education" and "bridgehead of chemical vocational education" in Shanghai and the whole country at large. She hopes that SPA will take the golden opportunity of Jinshan promoting the construction of "2 Zones & 1 Bridgehead", make greater achievements and write a new chapter in the course of education reform and development.
Chen Yun, General Manager of Covestro Integrated Site Shanghai, recalled the 16 years' cooperation with SPA. The win-win cooperation model of school and enterprise has cultivated a great number of high-quality front-line employees for Covestro and established a good reputation of seamless connection between graduation and employment, which is the best practice of Chinese vocational education jointly created by both sides.
Yu Hongjun, Secretary General of Shanghai Chemical Industry Education Association, sent a congratulatory letter, in which he extended his warmest congratulations to SPA for its 40th founding anniversary. He hoped to continue to strengthen communication and cooperation and make new contributions to vocational education reform and innovation, national economic construction and chemical industry modernization development.
Gao Ju introduced the important achievements of SPA in the past forty year. He expressed that SPA will further deepen the construction of majors, adhere to the collaborative development of pre-occupation and post-occupation education, substantially serve renowned enterprises at home and abroad through international first-rate personnel cultivation and training, and finally achieve win-win results of SPA and regional development.
The former leaders and predecessors of SPA contributed to the development of SPA. Principal Gao Ju and Party Secretary Lin Guoxin presented bunches of flowers to the successive leaders of SPA to express their gratitude on behalf of SPA. Returning to the familiar campus, Guo Weiyi, former Principal of SPA, was filled with strong emotions and feelings. He recalled the hardship SPA had experienced during the second phase of pioneering work. SPA was finally built into Shanghai Modernized Secondary Vocational and Technical Model and National Key Secondary Vocational and Technical School by means of three reforms including school-running model reform, teaching and research reform, and labor and personnel reform. Guo Weiyi strongly supports the current target of building SPA into a modern vocational school of "Domestic First-class Demonstration; International Advanced Integration". He sincerely hopes that SPA will have a brighter future.
Affectionate poetry recitation titled "Forty Years' Progress, Because of Your Devotion" and elegant dance titled "the Original Aspiration" presented meaningful gifts to SPA at the occasion of its 40th founding anniversary thematic activity.
After the unveiling ceremony, leaders and guests visited the History Museum of Shanghai Petrochemical Academy, Cross-enterprise Training Center, NC Training Base and Chemical Engineering Training Building with the company of Principal Gao Ju.
