Recently, the Ministry of Education released the publicity list of training projects of Demonstration Virtual Simulation Training Base for Vocational Education, and the construction project of Virtual Simulation Training Base for Hazardous Chemicals Safety declared by Shanghai Petrochemical Academy was fortunate to be one of the seven selected projects in Shanghai.
In September 2020, the Ministry of Education issued the Notice on Developing the Construction of Demonstration Virtual Simulation Training Base for Vocational Education. As a national model school for secondary vocational education reform, Shanghai Petrochemical Academy actively applied for it at the first time. School leaders personally took charge and organized relevant departments and professional backbone teachers. After more than six months of intense work, they completed many work processes, such as planning, material writing, defense, declaration, etc., and stood out from many projects in Shanghai. After further optimization and improvement, they were reported to the Ministry of Education and finally selected into the list. This is not only due to the long-term accumulation of theory and practice, but also the result of the efforts of the whole school. The successful application of the project will further deepen the reform of education and teaching, promote the innovation of talent training mode, and strengthen the integration of teaching, learning and practical training.
The theme of this application is safety of hazardous chemicals, which not only considers the leading position of Chemical Engineering Major in the school, but also meets the needs of social and economic development. At present, production safety, especially hazardous chemicals safety, plays an increasingly important role in the stable development of national and regional economy. The General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council issued Opinions on Comprehensively Strengthening the Safety Production of Hazardous Chemicals, the General Office of the State Council issued Action Plan for Upgrading Vocational Skills, and the Emergency Management Department and other five ministries and commissions issued Implementation Opinions on the Action Plan for Upgrading Safety Skills in High-risk Industries, all of which made clear requirements for upgrading the skills of hazardous employees through safety education and training. The construction of Virtual Simulation and Training Base for Hazardous Chemicals Safety will be based on the transformation of regional chemical enterprises, focusing on the integrated development of chemical industry in Yangtze River Delta, contributing to the improvement of safety skills in hazardous chemicals industries, making full use of big data and artificial intelligence technology, constructing a new talent training and education governance model facing the future, and applying information technology to significantly improve the quality and efficiency of teaching and training.
Successful establishment of the Ministry of Education project is not only an affirmation of the effectiveness of running the school, but also an opportunity to promote the further development of the school. Through three years' construction, the school will realize the comprehensive upgrade of hazardous chemicals safety skills training facilities, develop a virtual simulation training management and resource sharing platform, and form a professional teaching team with information application ability, so as to achieve the goal of building a hazardous chemicals safety virtual simulation training base integrating the promotion of popular science education, the open training of safety skills areas, the sharing incubation of chemical high-tech and the demonstration radiation of chemical safety personnel training mode, and cultivate high-quality technical personnel with high safety quality and comprehensive ability for the hazardous chemicals industry to realize integrated development of vocational education and regional economy.
