School-Enterprise Collaboration Empowers Skilled Talent Growth — Pre-competition Training for Chemical Inspector Event of the 3rd Shanghai Chemical Industry Labor Skills Competition Successfully Held at Our School

The 3rd Shanghai Chemical Industry Labor Skills Competition will be held at our school in mid-October 2026. The competition is organized by the Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions and the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park Management Committee, with Shanghai Modern Chemical Industry Vocational College providing full support for the event. From August 22 to 23, the specialized pre-competition training for the Chemical Inspector category of the 3rd Shanghai Chemical Industry Labor Skills Competition was successfully completed at our school. The overall coordination of this category was led by Gao Wenjie, with instructors Yang Liaoyuan, Xing Shengli, and Gao Wenjie responsible for the training and guidance. A total of 58 skilled contestants from 29 participating teams, representing 22 leading domestic and international chemical companies—including Sinopec Shanghai Gaoqiao Petrochemical, Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry, Shanghai Huayi New Materials, Covestro, BASF, SECCO, and Huntsman—took part in this intensive preparation session.

The training was designed with the core objective of "benchmarking job standards and enhancing skills through competition". The competition content strictly aligns with the actual demands of chemical inspection positions and national vocational skill standards, comprising three core modules: theoretical assessment, analytical simulation operation, and analytical practical operation. This structure not only ensures the professionalism and standardization of the event but also achieves seamless integration between the competition setting and real-world production inspection scenarios.

Instructors Yang Liaoyuan and Xing Shengli were responsible for the analytical practical operation training, providing comprehensive and detailed guidance centered on the core project of determining the mixed alkali content in caustic soda. From the calibration and use of pipettes and volumetric flasks, to the standardized operation of burettes, to the precise judgment of titration endpoints using phenolphthalein and methyl orange as dual indicators, and to the data traceability and error analysis of triplicate measurements—every operational detail was aligned with industry standards, helping contestants address their weaknesses and strengthen their precision awareness.

Instructor Gao Wenjie took charge of the analytical simulation operation training, focusing on the determination of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in water samples using gas chromatography—a high-frequency testing scenario in the industry. The module comprehensively covered four competency dimensions: laboratory safety specifications, sample pretreatment, substance quantification via gas chromatography, and rapid troubleshooting and maintenance of common faults. This not only reinforced the contestants’ practical skills in instrument operation and maintenance but also translated the teaching experience of digitalized and intelligent operation into an advanced capability-building tool for enterprise skilled personnel.

This pre-competition training closely aligns with the core objectives of high-quality development in Shanghai’s chemical industry, and instills the spirit of model workers, the value of hard work, and the craftsmanship ethos throughout the process. It served both as a concentrated exchange and mutual learning opportunity for skilled talents in the chemical inspection field across the city, and as a vivid practice of school-industry-enterprise collaboration in deepening industry-education integration. Looking ahead, our school will continue to partner with leading chemical and testing enterprises in Shanghai, further innovate the forms of social service delivery in vocational education, open up more teaching resources—such as instrument maintenance and digitalized inspection—to frontline enterprise use, empower the tiered development of regional chemical skilled talent, and contribute to the synchronized progress of Shanghai’s vocational education and industrial development.
